What materials can a laser cutter cut?

The great versatility of laser cutting and engraving equipment leaves many users delighted with their work. These machines have high-quality and precision laser and CNC guides.

Cutting and engraving different designs is no longer a problem with laser cutting and engraving machines, we can make designs, prototypes, trophies, informative posters, key rings, decoration of objects, furniture, among many other applications.

However, many people doubt what materials they can work with, we are going to find out what surfaces we can engrave and cut with a laser machine.

What materials can we engrave and cut?

They are very interesting laser machines to carry out our designs and projects. This equipment has a laser and a CNC guide system (Computerized Numerical Control System). It is a system consisting of two guides that move the laser head to the required position. Through a system of mirrors, the laser beam is communicated to the head, and with a lens, the laser energy will be concentrated at a point so that it can be cut or engraved. Laser has a longer wavelength than fiber laser and has a high lifetime.

These laser machines are slower than those that use a Galvo system but, even so, they are very practical and we can work at a good pace. It is very interesting that these laser machines can be chosen from different models with very varied work ranges, each user will be able to choose the machine that best suits their needs.

What materials can we engrave and cut?

Laser cutting and engraving machines are highly versatile because there are many laser cutter materials that we can work with:

Wood:

One of the most interesting laser-cutting materials, since wood allows us to engrave and cut with laser to carry out our best designs. Plywood or MDF is widely used due to its low cost, but bamboo might be a greener option to work with.

Acrylic and plastic:

To make some designs we might be interested in cutting or engraving acrylic or similar, letters could be cut, and codes, ornaments, and jewelry could be implemented, among other options. Also, there are many types of acrylics and plastics that we could work with with a laser.

Glass:

In the case of glass we could only engrave it, but not cut it. We can decorate ashtrays, wine glasses, and glass figures, to give some examples. In addition, with the rotary accessory, it is ideal for engraving cylindrical objects, such as bottles or similar.

Leather:

It is possible both to cut it and to engrave it. Interesting to make labels and leather accessories and establish designs or words, we could also customize wallets, bags, labels, belts, and works of art, among others.

Rubber Gum:

It's not well known for use with laser machines, but that's the way it is. Basically, we would highlight the use of the laser machine in rubber to make our own stamps, which are used to put the address, the date, or the logo of our company. And not only this, we can discover other possibilities that rubber offers us.

Metal:

Although it is not the most suitable material for cutting with a laser, it is more suitable for engraving and implementing our designs on different metal surfaces.

Cardboard:

A very economical material and suitable for both cutting and engraving. Interesting to design prototypes, and boxes with our logo, among other options.

Paper and Cardboard:

These two materials are also very cheap and offer many possibilities, some examples could be: business cards, drawings to paint, painting stencils, etc.

Atomstack laser-specific materials:

Atomstack makes available to customers an extensive selection of high-quality laser cutting materials, designed to be engraved and/or cut with a laser.

The best known are bi-layer acrylics, generically called Gravoply. These materials have two layers so that when the laser hits the top layer, it burns the material and evaporates it, exposing the color of the second layer. In this way, an immediate contrast is generated and there is no need to paint afterward.

Our laser cutting machine also has in its offer metals such as anodized aluminum and lacquered aluminum and brass, which can be marked directly with a laser (in the case of brass, only in the color black). Finally, there are also many other materials that are suitable for lasers such as methacrylate, Laser Wood, rubber, or Delrin for stamps, etc.

Atomstack offers engraving and cutting materials for lasers including:

- Various ranges of plastics, acrylics, laminates, metals, and wood for interior and/or exterior use.

- A wide range of surfaces and colors.

- Large selection of thicknesses and dimensions.

- Possibility of customizing materials according to the needs of our clients (different combinations, specific RAL/Pantone, several layers...).

- Cutting, beveling, drilling, gluing, and corner die-cutting services... according to customer demand, so that they receive the plates ready to be engraved.

All materials comply with regulations on the limitation of the use of dangerous substances.

As you can see, a laser machine can be very interesting if you want to work on any of the materials that we have detailed before. Their versatility makes them one of the most used types of lasers on the market.

At Atomstack, our laser machines are productive, reliable, and with very good beam quality, so they may be your best option if you are looking for a laser with these characteristics.

If you need more information about something that we have explained or information about any laser engraving machine or material, do not hesitate to contact us.
